This beautiful Island was given away in 1962, on The Price Is Right game show by, Bob Barker for the accurate price of $2,000,000.00 . In 1774, famous botanist William Bartram, visited Bear Island which he noted in his journal. Many people today follow what is known as Bartram’s Trail. In 1942, an Airstrip was constructed on the island to practice aircraft carrier landings. Columbia Pictures held the premier of Jules Verne’s ”Mysterious Island” on Bear Island.
